I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit O/S on my computer. When I insert a DVD into the player, I get the message "F:\ Application Not Found". This also occurs when I try to open the Windows Media Player. I have even tried downloading other media players, such as "Realplayer", but everything I do ends up with the same message, that the application is not found. Is something seriously wrong? Thanks for any help!

It sounds as if your pc is trying to autorun the dvd and doesn't find an autorun.inf file. (which is normal)... Or possibly the application you use to open dvd's (automatically) is missing.

To stop it i suggest you try and change the autorun settings:

Open the control panel and find "AutoPlay"(Click on it)
- Down the list of items find the DVD content (e.g. "DVD movie" or others like that)
- Take a look at the current action,
Either change it to
> "Take no action" and see if the error goes away
or
> Find another item (e.g. a program) which you use to play dvds with

Or, I think the ODD gone bad.

What are you trying to view?

Your DVD drive is F: ??? Just wanted to confirm...

Try downloading VLC player here:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

If this still doesn't work then try manually navigating to the directory and opening the files individually and choose "Open With --> VLC player"

I have no idea how my DVD drive is F:\. I have three HD's. C, D, and E. I tried downloading VLC player and Realdrive media players. Same stupid message "Application not found". I've also tried to manually open the files, but with no luck. I contacted Microsoft, and the DORK I communicated with tried to tell me there is no Media Player for Windows 7. So, I am in quite a quandary as to what to do. I appreciate your suggestions so far. Thanks! I just wish I could figure this out.

I tried changing the autorun settings. I used every configuration possible. I've tried other media players that didn't alleviate the problem. What is the ODD that may have gone bad? I'm not familiar with that term. Thanks for the suggestions thus far!

Are you getting "Application not found" when you try to install VLC?

Your OS may need to re-associate certain extensions.

Download the .reg file here (the big green button that says (DOWNLOAD 632 B):

http://www.mediafire.com/download/4n6lg6xa6w0yuff/exefi...

This should work for Windows 7 too. If not then try this registry edit which you create manually:

Please click Start-> Run. Type command and press Enter. Type notepad and press Enter.
Copy all the text below:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"
Save this as fix.reg to your Desktop (VERY IMPORTANT: Remember to select Save as file type: All files in Notepad.)
Double Click fix.reg and click YES for confirm.
Reboot the computer.

I'll be sure to try this tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Could someone have actually uninstalled the Media Player? I have roommates that don't know what they are doing and I hope they weren't messing with my computer.

Well, I tried all the solutions you advised. I downloaded the reg file. That didn't help. Then I tried the registry edit. everything went fine until I Double clicked fix.reg and clicked yes to confirm. I received an error message saying registry error "not a registry script". I followed your instructions to the letter. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks!

ODD = Optical Disk Drive means your DVD drive. I think its dead. Or try to clean install of OS.
