Hey,
After upgrading to a new gtx 650ti from a hd4850, I took the plunge and bought a new mobo, cpu and ram. After installing windows, the computer would run for a few minutes, sometimes longer, until it would seemingly at random shut down. I installed hw monitor and all the temperatures looked fine. When I reinstalled my 4850, the random shut downs stopped.

Previous to the new hardware, the gtx 650ti was running fine on my old setup.

I am wondering if it is a PSU issue, or whether somehow the gtx has got damaged whilst installing/uninstalling from the old board.

Specs:
Corsair VX550W
M5A99FX PRO R2.0
8GB DDR3
AMD FX-8 8350

GTX 650ti 2GB (problem)/HD4850 1GB

The shutdowns happen without warning, and the system simply boots up again straight away.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

wouldn't that have caused issues while the OS install was happening?

That PSU is more than enough for your setup, and it's of good quality. Besides, it ran well with the same wattage HD 4850 (both 110W). It could well be a defective card if the system is fine with the HD 4850 back in.
