I'm not sure how to tell what makes a sound card compatible with my motherboard. If anyone could please help me and inform me on how to figure it out, that would be great. This is the motherboard i have. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...

Sounds cards are either:
1) PCI, or
2) PCIe x1

All sound cards are compatible but you most have a spare PCI or PCIe slot to fit the card. The "PCIe x1" sound cards will fit in any PCIe slot (x1, x4, x16).

*Your best choice is probably a PCIe sound card placed at the very top PCIe x1 slot. If it doesn't fit (should) then you have other PCIe slots there.

As for WHICH CARD to get? It depends on budget. You can read reviews. ASUS has a few inexpensive but good cards but you can go to NCIX, Newegg or just Google to find customer reviews etc.

Installation:
1) DISABLE the onboard sound in your motherboard BIOS
2) physically install sound card
3) install the drivers/software (newest may be online not on CD)
