Unless your TV is broken, the most likely cause is that your audio isn't hooked up right. If you have RED/WHITE cables attached to your TV they might not be the proper ones for the VIDEO input group you chose (in which case you actually get VIDEO on one input such as "VIDEO1", and only AUDIO on a different input such as "VIDEO2").

Troubleshooting:
1) Try different inputs (i.e. HDMI) on your TV with the same device (i.e. cable box, DVD player)
2) Try different devices on the same input.
