This has happened twice already. Laptop is new, Lenovo Y410p, about a week old. Came with Win8 and i downgraded to Win7. Problem is that during both incidents, the laptop was on and running and i closed the lid and went out of the room. When i came back and opened the lid, there were multiple changes to the desktop. The taskbar was moved to the top of the screen the first time and to the right of the screen the second time. Itunes was playing a song. Different windows from my desktop were open that weren't open when i left. Desktop icons had been moved. It's basically as if someone came in and started randomly moving on the touchpad and clicking things.

How do you know someone didn't mess with it?

Anyway, my advice is to put Windows 8 back on. Your laptop may even have software included meant to integrate with it specifically so simply installing a different version of Windows may have issues.

*START8 from Stardock ($5) makes Windows 8 feel almost exactly like Windows 7. I've been using W8 for a year with START8 and prefer it to Windows 7.
a) I cold boot to the standard desktop
b) The Start Menu is there and feels like the original
c) I have no CHARMS BAR in the standard desktop
d) I can go to the new W8 Screen via a shortcut but otherwise it's all hidden.

Do this:
1. Backup any data etc.
2. RESTORE Windows 8
(boot and use proper F-Key to start the Factory Restore feature to reinstall the backup of W8 from the hidden partition. Unless you destroyed that..)
3. Get START8

If you can't restore W8 because you destroyed that on the HDD, talk to the manufacture about getting a disc. Use whatever reason you think is appropriate but telling them you put W7 may not be the best approach.

Im sure no one messed with it. And the reason i went to Windows 7 was because I read a handful of reviews from people who had this laptop before i bought it that the wireless and touchpad drivers are really glitchy when running 8 but work fine with 7. Going back to 8 is not an option, and even if it was, i wouldn't want to do it. I also just ran a full scan using AVG and it didnt find any problems, so i really have no idea what happened. Anyone?

Your choice I guess.
The drivers will probably be fixed (possibly already), and Windows 8 works just like Windows 7 with Start8 applied.
