GTX570 Temperature Skyrocket

I currently have both my CPU and my EVGA GTX570 watercooled. On idle, the CPU sits at 28C and my video card is sitting at 45C. I used to have my card's OC settings at 875mhz/2000mem. I would play my games (WoW/Rift/ME2/Borderlands 2) on ultra settings and the highest I've ever seen my GPU temperature get was maybe 70C.

Over the past week, anytime I start a game, it jumps up to 98-99C within about 10 seconds of starting the game. I initially thought it was time to re-apply thermal paste on the waterblock even though it's been about a year. After doing that, it did me no good. I then reduced set my card settings down to default which 732mhz and 1900mhz. I finally read on a thread that unplugging a 2nd monitor should help. It lowered my idle time by about 5C, but the minute a game starts, the same thing.

I've used this card for about a year and have had no issues. Any ideas?

Here's the waterblock that I ordered:

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14501/ex-blc-1002/Heatkiller_GPU-X_GTX_570_580_-Hole_Edition-_nVidia_GTX_570580_nolHS_Non-Reference_Design_Full_Coverage_Water_Block_15513.html?gclid=COPUgp2t-bgCFYqZ4Aod5SQALQ

I went back to the computer and tightened all the screws very tightly to make sure that everything is still very secured.

I also want to point out that when it's showing 98C, I was able to play with it like that for a good while. The CPU (on the same loop) would not rise in temperature the entire time I'm playing the game. I've also opened up the computer and touched the waterblock to see how hot it is and it's not hot at all.

As for the stock cooler, I do not have it. I've kept it for the past year and sold it on ebay about a month ago, thinking that I'm finally good to get rid of it. Talk about horrible timing.

Good point, when was the last time you cleaned out your loop? Do you use any dyes that could clog things up? Also try to apply new thermal paste and re-seat the waterblock on the card. Make sure the water in the loop is circulating properly without obstruction.

Hope this helps!

I initially thought the same thing. I stirred my water coolant up a bit to make it bubble and I saw bubbles running through the entire loop.

I cleaned out my water loop a year ago when I installed the card. It had a bit of gunk in it, but it's running smooth/clean still as of last night. I already re-applied thermal paste and did a re-seat of the waterblock last night, but I'll try it again tonight to see if it makes a difference.

Well, I came home and pulled out the video card, took off the waterblock, re-applied thermal paste, flushed out my liquid cooling, and then re-set everything. I then turned the computer on and was never able to get past a boot due to the card apparently hitting 100C+ and shutting down.

I then took an old video card with a fan that I used for an alternate computer and it works perfectly fine. Therefore, the only conclusion I can come up with is that the video card somehow died on me. Just sucks that it's worked perfectly fine for about a year and out of nowhere started spitting out 90ish degrees. Thanks for all the help anyhow.
