Hi I am trying to OC my i7 3770k to a very mild overclock around 4.3ghz. I set the core ratio to 43 and cpu voltage to 1.275 (it rounded out to 1.280) I started up prime 95 on blend and within 2 seconds the temperatures shot up to 80c then within about a min 90-95c WTF??? is this supposed to happen

Solution
Is 1.275v really high? I've been able to run 1.38v through my 3570K, although temps go through the roof (90 - 100°C is pushing it haha). For 4.3GHz, you could try lowering your vcore. Around 1.22 - 1.24v should show a good difference in temps, but you will have to check if it is stable.

You shouldn't need a significant extra for that clock. Less voltage, less heat created, but keep making sure it is stable.
1. 1.275v is pretty high for an ivy bridge processor
2. Ivy Bridge and haswell has bad TIM between the lid and the die. because of it, theres a point where it cannot disperse enough heat to the lid to be cooled effeciently, and the only way to fix it is delliding which is dangerous to novices.
