Hello,

I’m in the process of building a computer with a budget of $1000 AUD, but happy to go a little higher to 1200. I’m building the computer for predominately ROME 2, so no FPS’s. Will also purchase everything at the local MSY or pc case gear.

Play strategy games, mainly shogun and rome 2 (when it arrives)
Won’t be overclocking
Unlikely to upgrade components in the future
1680x1050 dell 2007 wfpb monitor, unlikely to upgrade

1. Based on the above details what graphics card should I go for a I’m looking at the 660ti or the 7870, what are your thoughts on this. Obviously the 660ti ups the budget, but appears significantly better. Does it matter given ill run at 1680x1050 and playing Rome 2.
2. Also should I go for the new 4570, 4670 (only an extra $20) or 3570. Given I won’t be overclocking so don’t need the k version and probably won’t upgrade, so will it matter.
3. Should I also drop the corsair vengeance and just go for the normal corsair ram or cheaper ram.
4. Also I could lose the 2tb hard drive (saving $99) and use an old external harddrive for backup/ music/ movies.

Thanks Seladon
1. The 650ti boost costs between 180-200 here, so its a good price point.
2. Will prob go for one of: 4670 or 4570
3. gskill looks good, what is the patriot and kingston ram like, i imagine there all good. i have noticed a lot of builds go with corsair though. so thats why i had it down.

As my screen res is only 1680x1050 is there any point in getting a better card like the 660 ti, or were you suggesting the 650 ti boost based on the cost/performance.

I'm suggesting it based of the price/performance ratio, and also to offer an alternative to your HD 7870. The 650 ti boost is not as good, but not too far from it either, and it's obviously on a far lower price. But the 660 Ti might be a good choice too.
