i5 2500k Gigabyte Z68AP-D3

Hello. I have never overclocked before and i am trying to get as much help as i can. I'm not the smartest when it comes to computers but i do know a few things. Videos would be a major help for me, Overclocking seems really difficult and i do not want to mess up my system so i want to try to understand this as much as i can.

I was told that with my current mobo and CPU it would be impossible to overclock but i just wanted to get some more answers.

I'm looking to overclock just around 3.7-4.0 for the time.

Whenever i live stream video games, my cpu usage is always at 99-100. Will overclocking from 3.3 to 3.7-4.0 help this at all?

My power supply and cooling system:
built in Asetek 510LC 120mm liquid cooling
Apevia 700watt

Make sure you have the latest BIOS and then simply go into BIOS and raise multiplier to 40, may need to add a little vCore (CPU voltage) and should be there

I've had mine up to 4.2GHZ with just the multi alone. May even go higher w/o voltage. Never tried it.
And I never bothered to disable speedstep or cie either.

How much would i need to raise the cpu voltage to? Numbers would be great, or a current guide? I've had troubles finding a guide for my mobo. I really am not familiar with OCing since this would be my first.

This makes a bit more sense to me. From what i got, all i would need to do is increase the multiplier and nothing else to see improved cpu speed?

Initially don't add any, you only add as you need it, if you set it to 40 or 41 or 42 and it doesn't boot then just add a little, maybe + 0.006 and see how far that takes you

Just pop it to 40 and give it a try, you'll be fine

The 2500k is made to be O/C'ed. It can take a lot with good cooling. I just leave mine low because I haven't found a game the system won't play at max settings yet. No sense taxing it if not necessary, I figure.

I'm also not sure i'm running the latest bios for gigabyte. In msinfo, it says the bios date is 10/12/2011. I'm not really sure how to check the exact version or how to update

Will i run into problems if i do not update my BIOS? I've never updated my BIOS so it's a bit confusing to me.

Can give it a try, worse that prob happen is it doesn't like the OC and goes back to default CMOS settings
