I've had this new laptop for about two months now, and I've been experimenting a little with Dolby Home Theater v4, which came pre-installed when we bought it. It has a preset for movies, a preset for music, and a preset for games. The gaming preset, as far as I can tell, is supposed to make it easier for the player to judge exactly where gunfire and footsteps are coming from in most FPS games. It is helpful to a certain degree in judging where gunfire is located, but it's more challenging to hear footsteps on this preset. Fortunately, it looks like I can change some settings, but I don't know what the optimal settings are for hearing footsteps easily in games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2 (I don't have any of those more recent games like BF3 and Call of Duty or whatever). Can any DHT experts out there give me a hand?

For reference, this is what the default settings for the gaming preset are:

Hard to say what the frequency of footsteps because it changes somewhat depending on the ground surface but it is around 2000Hz. The EQ you are using is limited in terms of "bands" of adjustments and isn't a parametric EQ which gives you more control in each band, so you have to play with it to find the best setting.

Nice gaming setting will definitely help you enjoy special moments in your weekends. But how will you play the game if your seating arrangement is not properly done. In that case, I would recommend you to purchase home theater seating and enjoy your game luxuriously.
