Should I get a PS4 or PC?

I am really torn. The PS4 will only cost $399 and the PC that I'd really like costs around $1000~
I'd love to play with my mates on PS4 (they don't play PC) but I really want a PC for things other than gaming like web browsing, video editing, doing schoolwork etc.
This is my PC:
- Intel i5 3570K (Overclocked to 4.4 GHz) -$210
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO -$33
- Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H -$138
- Gigabyte GTX 770 OC WINDFORCE 3X 2GB GDDR5 -$400
- Corsair Vengeance Blue 8 GB (2X4 GB) 1600mHz DDR3 -$65
- Samsung 840 Series 120GB SSD -$91
- Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM -$90
- Rosewill Blackhawk Mid-Tower Gaming case -$73
Total: $1100 (wow exactly $1100! I just guessed it before :D)
PS4:
PS4 Killzone: Shadowfall bundle (Includes a year of PlayStation Plus) -$500
Total: $500
Please no eletists here! I really do need advice! ACTUAL ADVICE. Not a dumbass opinion but ADVICE!

Thats the clever thing to do. Why buy a launch edition console that may be plagued with issues when you could buy a few weeks later after the reviews and everything are out? :)

I have a PS3 and a PC simply because they provide me with different things, the PS3 i feel is more social, eg when friends come over we play on that and when i really want to relax i play on the PS3.

But as people before have said, you can't really compare a PS4 to a PC, they simply cater to different needs really.

For 4.4ghz you will probably need a better cooler unless you get really lucky with your chip. Other than that your build is fine. A ps4 will last longer and has a lower cost. As for the pc your components will get old and slower after time and need to be upgraded but that will result in significant improvement over the ps4 (say 3 years from now). Also your pc will perform most likely better than the console and be able to play at 1440p+ resolution. If your friends don't play pc get a ps4 then unless you want some pc specific games. A good gaming pc is expensive. You can also get a ps4 and build an inexpensive pc for everything else.

I built my friends PC and we used the i5 and 212 EVO and overclocked it at 4.4 and (on idle) it remained rather cool. Around ~30 degrees. Full load ~45-55 degrees. We may have gotten lucky but you know.
Keep this in mind - I will get a PS4 no matter what. I'm talking this year. So it's either wait until I'll have enough money to buy a PS4 after I build a PC (I'm working part-time so not a lot of income) or the other way around

Getting both a PS4 and a PC will most likely be about the same cost, and over the long run possibly more.
A good PC with an upgrade path will cost about 450-500. at that point you'd only be saving about 100-150, and that's without mentioning that you can save a lot of money on games with Steam. And that you can do more with a PC, like video editing, web browsing, ect.

If you're going to get a PS4 no matter what, then there's no question: get the PS4 first. The PS4 has set specs that won't change throughout the life of the console. So you'll get the maximum time out of the initial investment. Available parts and prices change for PC's more or less constantly. In general, at any point in time the PC you put together for a specific budget is going to be better than it would have been months or years ago, so you're not losing out by waiting. Save some cash after the PS, and if you're still feeling it build a PC. That way you're getting the most useful time possible from your money.

I honestly don't know how many times I have to point this out, but I will continue to do so until I'm blue in the face: A PS4 =/= a PC. Just because it's using an "8 core CPU manufactured by AMD" does not mean it's even remotely equivalent. It's an APU. If you're going to buy a PC, buy a PC. If you're going to buy a PS4, buy a PS4. But one does not equal a replacement for the other. The PS4 exists strictly to play games on. The PC plays games but does so much more than a console does.

You have whipped up a parts list for a top end gaming rig, $1100 worth, when you only need to spend half that. Any intel quad will suffice for several years, not 3. Overclocking isnt necessary either, so a basic board will suffice.
You also dont HAVE to go gtx770 either. Unless you are a multi monitor guy a 760 or 650 boost , or 7850 (ps4 power gpu) will give acceptable performance. a 1 tb drive is big enough, and the ssd you could live without but i would try to keep that in. The stock quad wont need aftermarket cooling, except for noise.reasons.
You could almost cut that budget in half and still have a capable machine for the next 5 years but dont forget a decent power supply unless there is something good in that case. If you have 1100, you could buy both, but i think i would wait until i was less excited with the ps4 before building the pc. If you build a $600 pc, you probably wont want a ps4.

I'm actually a bit hesitant on buying a PS4 at launch (In case of and major stuff ups hardware wise). But I still really want it because of the awesome exclusives. Still rather torn

I dont really think they will stuff it up at launch, because the hardware already exists. (Unlike the graphics cock up on the ps3 where they had to swap to invidia . But some of these exclusive games might be a bit delayed. I would wait a while too.

But a console only exists for the sole purpose of playing games. They're really appliances. They are not personal computers. Just because AMD is now manufacturing the APUs for them does not make them equivalent to PCs, and I will point this out every time.

Din't you read his post? Why would you buy a ps4? For gaming. So if you don't want to game get a pc. Obviously their talking about gaming only. Otherwise they wouldn't really suggest the ps4.

Wait, what? :heink:

You can play games on a PC and you can play games on a console, but consoles are made just for playing games, where PCs can play games in addition to performing hundreds of other jobs.

Graphics definitely do not look better on consoles...

I play my pc at 60+ fps but when I go to console I don't notice. Plus, last gen consoles were at 720p what about 1080p? :p we can't know yet. Consoles are good for budgets. If you have $1000 spend it on a pc to get 120fps when 60fps is no differnce.
