Applying Thermal paste

What is the correct way for applying thermal paste? should i spread it in a linear way, or a like an X or a blob in the middle of the processor?

A blob in the middle is fine.

a blob in the middle, something like the size of a grain of rice is normally recommended.

It honestly depends on each thermal paste. For AS5 they tell you to spread it. For IC Diamond they tell you to put a small dab in the middle and use the heatsink to spread it, which is what I do for all TIMs anyways.
