~~~~~~~
My plans with this PC is to primarily use it for gaming, internet surfing, watching video, and school.
I will not be overclocking.
Is there anything I should change or is it all good.
I read horror stories about the installation of that cooling unit, and I don't want to go with liquid. Will that cooling unit be sufficient, or do you guys have a better suggestion? Preferably something that will fit in that case and keep my CPU sufficiently cooled for long gaming hours. Aesthetics, manual controls, and whatnot is not an issue to me; I just want to keep things running cooled and efficient.
About the SSDs and the HDD. Is an SSD safe and reliable to use alone? Is having both necessary or advised? I really don't download bunches and bunches of video (movies and episodes)?
Should I go with Windows 7 or Windows 8; I really don't care about the UI aesthetics. All I want is efficiency.
Feel free to post any suggestions or advice. I thank you all in advance.
I might advice you a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, or a Noctua Noctua NH-D14 if the air flow from the first one isn't quite good enough for you.
The HDDs are used along with the SSD only cause SSDs don't have a good price/capacity ratio, and if you just want to store photos, then you don't really need an SSD to access it faster. So the HDD is used to store files, and the SSD is used to get fast access to others, like the OS or games for exemple.
I would advice you to get Windows 8 there. It IS actually faster than Windows 7, on pretty much any point. The negative point is the interface.
That Cooler Master is pretty inexpensive. Would it be capable of keeping the CPU I'm getting sufficiently cool during long gaming runs?
Also, the only thing I see me really storing is games (when I'm playing them), the OS, and other programs. I don't really keep photos, music, or video stored. I generally quickly move that stuff to an external. I guess perhaps I could just skip the HDD and just get the larger of the SSDs and use that; which should be sufficient. Are SSDs reliable? I've never personally used one.
I won't be overclocking at all, I'll just be running it as it is out of the box. So I guess that would mean the Cooler Master you mentioned will be fine for that CPU, right?
I tend to play RPGs, MMOs, and the occasional action game. If I decided to get a new monitor, what would be a good one at 24ish inches. One where I wouldn't have to sacrifice lush color for speed (since I don't play FPS games).
Any input or opinions on this; as well as the things in my original post, would be welcome.
Oh ok, I didn't realize that would be enough. People have been telling me I need to buy a cooling unit. Also thank you for your suggestion in a monitor. I do appreciate your time.
Does anyone anyone else have any input on my build or what has been discussed here?
Oh ok, I just figured others may have suggestions too. Nothing against you, I just wanted to be sure I wasn't messing up anything else with my selected build. That's all.
This is my very first self-build, and I'm just a little nervous going in I guess.
