I have been using my laptop for around four years now, usually for gaming. However due to serious overheating problems during my second year, I was able to learn about dust in the laptop fan and get it cleaned. My laptop performance got better after removing dust and my laptop would still overheat and get "laggy" due to the heat if I played for a couple of hours. So I bought a laptop cooling pad in my third year, to place under my laptop as a solution. It helped alot and I was able to keep my laptop on for long periods of time. Now in my fourth year, my laptop cannot survive overheating without the aid of the cooling pad, a REAL fan, and a block of ice cube! Lmfao. Recently I learned about thermal grease or paste. Will having it reapplied solve my problems???

I am planning to buy a macbook pro retina haswell, once it comes out, but in the meantime I want to keep this current laptop alive so that I can pass it down to my lil brother. I know I sound desperate, but you know, you can't just throw away a $2000 laptop that you bought four years ago...

U can replace the thermal paste it probably will help, just make sure u do it right and make sure the heatsinks make good contact. Also dusting helps alot, even in places that dont have a vent like by the ram etc. Also going to a ssd may help as hard drives produce quite abit of heat at least for my laptop it does lol.

There is guides for laptop teardowns etc and thermal paste replacement but make sure u know ur laptop
