PCI card for extra storage need help

Good morning guys,

So my problem is I only have 6 Sata ports on my mobo and my Raid, 1 external and 2 optical drives are using that so I need a PCI-e card that I can use for additional storage.

Here are my questions:

Should I rather connect the optical drives to the SATA PCI-e card or is it ok if those HDD's are just for extra storage? Like images, ect?

I am also busy upgrading my storage completely, right now I only have 2 SSD's running RAID 0 & a 4 TB HDD which is my main storage file. I am thinking of just getting more 4TB drives along the way. Would you recommend that or should I rather stick to 2 TB just in case the mechanical drives do damage and I lose data so the loss is minor?

Thanks in advance :)

you should already have backup of everything thats on the 4tb drive... what if it dies .. like right now?

The p8z77 deluxe comes in 2 forms.

The -i deluxe has only 4 internal sata ports and 2 esata ports all on intel controller
the -v deluxe has 6 internal sata ports on the intel controller, 2 internal ports on a marvel controller, and 2 esata ports on an ASmedia controller.

Could you please clarify/doublecheck what you have?

Asus P8Z77 Deluxe mobo.
USB 2.0, 3.0
That's all as far as I know, so no eSATA and no firewire.

To answer your question about the RAID I don't think it's necessary or would you recommend it?

To me personally I think all I would be doing is wasting hours making backups of the 4TB HDD that I'm using right now before formatting it to be used in RAID
