My raptor died, I have a second 7200 rpm 500 gb data drive that is hdd. I have a custom rig but the mobo is 7 years old. So far only replaced graphics card and I think it still may be good, think my hard drive was dieing all along. Anyhow, Decided to get SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD), sata III cables, and the 2.5 drive bay. I am having it installed but want to be sure they use AHCI for the purpose of trim. Now I just wonder if I can/should use AHCI if my mobo only supports sata 2? No dont want to pci a slot in, I like playing WOW, bF 2, windows 7 ultimate os, google, email and some office letter writing if needed. I am not overclocked. My mobo is EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard (you have to google ----> EVGA 58 132-bl-e758 <----- to get a link to specs cause its discont. AHCI or no? Would it effect my HDD data drive to be in this mode?

I thank you both for response. Gotta love the owls btw......Again, its great that people are out there giving good advice in a world where corporate greed would steal you blind just so you would upgrade (say my mobo)...Thank you...

Just to be clear, we are referring to the sata port type setting in the motherbds bios. The drive will work in any mode that its set to (ahci, legecy/ide, or raid) but ahci is for best performance, ide for compatibility, and raid .. for raids.
