PC won't go past bios splash screen?

Hi,

I just inherited a PC with:

i5 660
4GB DDR3
500GB HDD
9500GT
350W PSU

This was better than my current PC (apart from graphics card), so I decided to switch to it.

I installed my 560ti and my 700W PSU and it worked for about a day and now, for no reason it seems to have stopped working.

When I booted up this morning, it said ASUS Anti-Surge has detected surges during the last session or something like that. It gave me the option to enter setup or set default values and continue.

I chose the second option, which led to a BSOD on startup. Running startup repair failed to achieve anything, and now when I turn it on, it just goes the the BIOS splash screen and goes no further. If I try and enter the BIOS settings it just goes the the POST screen and still nothing happens.

If I reset the CMOS, it gives me one opportunity to change bios settings OR try and boot with default settings (which fails). Any attempt to boot after that initial start up leads to the frozen bios screen.

I'm guessing setting to default values messed something up, and running startup repair didn't help either.

Please help, I really need to get this working again.

By the way, the Motherboard is an ASUS P7H55-M

Thanks!

The hard disk is probably set to use AHCI mode. Default is IDE mode. Try finding that setting in the bios and changing to AHCI. You cannot boot a AHCI disk in IDE mode.

If you get to post then your hardware is fine (though can't be totally sure it is 100% stable). The GPU, RAM CPU and MOBO at the least are working fine. It is likely a HDD issue even if what I suggest doesn't fix it I would suspect the HDD being at fault first....

ASUS Anti-Surge looks for over-voltage and under-voltage conditions from the power supply.

Since the Anti-Surge is being triggered that indicates an unstable power supply unit.

To troubleshoot the problem you need a known stable working power supply unit to swap with.

You were right, it was set to IDE. There is still the issue though, that I can only go past the BIOS splash screen by resetting the CMOS. By doing this I am able to once go into the settings, but when I save changes it just gets stuck on the logo screen. Perhaps there is another setting in the bios I need to change?

Also, just to make sure, it the POST screen the one that lists all the hardware etc? It says 'Can't detect TPM device!'.

Thanks again

Hi,
I am talking about the BIOS logo screen. It is the first and last thing to automatically display when I turn on the PC.
If I press Delete to enter setup it sticks on POST, saying 'Entering setup...' but nothing happens. I am only able to actually access BIOS settings by resetting the CMOS.

I figure once I can get it so that the BIOS is functioning normally, and allows me to access the settings on every startup as normal, I will be able to change the hard drive setting to AHCI which might fix it. I still have no idea how to do this though, I guess there will be a setting in the bios that is causing this problem which I will have to change by resetting the CMOS, or perhaps the battery is dead?

Yesterday for some weird reason, in my mindless repetitive attempts to turn it on, it actually booted all the way to Windows. I backed up my data then I restarted and it worked again. 5 minutes later however, and I'm back to where I was before. Can anyone help me get past this blasted splash screen?
