Hello everyone. I am not an audiophile and so my knowledge on this is a bit limited, but I know a lot about computer parts in general.
I am getting a Turtle Beach x41 wireless gaming headset as part of a deal. I plan to use it with my PC and with my Xbox 360.
I know that the Turtle Beach x41 has a DSP inside to create sounds. I plan to connect it to my motherboard by S/PDIF cable. However, I was wondering if adding a decent sound card with S/PDIF capabilities would improve the sound quality more? From what I think I have figured out, but could be wrong, the S/PDIF just carries the information for the sound to the external device for decoding, and does not actually get decoded by the sound card.
Is this true? If so will my audio quality coming off of my motherboard's S/PDIF be just as good as that coming off of a sound card?
Thanks for any information.
