ask toolbar is imbedded into IE it seems, has a red "ask" in Left corner of the search bar
I even disabled IE still pops back
there are no files it seems elsewhere, cannot make an alternate home page address as that button is greyed out
as there are no other files to be found I am unable to get rid of it the usual way
I even tried ask toolbar removal tools to no avail

use hijackthis and malware bytes, both will remove parts of the toolbar that are hidden in the registry...
use hijack this to remove the BHO (browser helper objects) that are associated with it. then use malwarebytes to remove the rest.
allso check the the add/remove programs list in control panel ask toolbar is normally shown there if its not a fake 1.

it is not listed in the usual places ie add/remove programs, addons etc
I have tried malwarebytes >no success
I haven't run hijack this as yet I can try that
will let you know the result

do me a favour and run hijack this and create a log file. upload it to a file share host and link it on here. that way i can look at it and see if i can spot the problem and tell you exactly what if anything to remove.
also check out a 3rd party installer like perfect uninstaller.
http://download.cnet.com/Perfect-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10803305.html it will often show files that are hidden from the windows own programs manager.
