do i need both a SSD and a HDD for a gaming pc

As above - Have to have, NO.

What an SSD does:
... Cuts down boot time and decreases the time programs take to load and Improves reads and writes to the SSD. SSDs are about 40-> 60 times faster than a HDD.

What an SSD will NOT do.
.. Allow progrms to run faster
.. No increase in FPS for gams, Load time for game "maps" will be much faster as long as the "Map" is on the SSD.
.. No improvement in email or Wb surfing, including downloads as this is a function of the much slower internet Provider speed.

That said, ALL my systems have a OS + Program SSD (two laptops and three desktops) and I would Never consider going back to a Mechanical HD for OS + programs.
Not NLY are they considerably fast, I find them more reliable than the "NEW"...
