So I've nearly finished picking my first build's parts, but I'm sort of stuck on the GPU...
I know I'm getting a gtx 780, but not quite sure which brand to go with yet...
The superclocked EVGA looks nice, but so does the inno3d, asus and MSI cards...
Or I might get the refrence card, I'm totally clueless
which would you say is the best?

Solution

I think MSI Lightning isn't released yet.

EVGA, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte. These are the 4 most popular brands IMHO. They all have solid reputation and very good cooling solutions. Hard to say which one is really better. I don't know much about inno3D though, I took a look at their cards and they look great too.

The Plait Super Jetstream GeForce GTX 780 OC has a
Core: 980MHz
Core Boost Clock: 1033MHz
Memory: 3072MB
6200MHz GDDR5
CUDA Cores: 2304

where as the EVGA SC ACX GTX 780 Oc
Core: 967MHz
Core Boost Clock: 1020MHz
Memory: 3072MB
6008MHz GDDR5
CUDA Cores: 2304

sorry to burst your bubble but the Plait Super Jetstream GeForce GTX 780 OC would be my choice any day of the week as it's cheaper too by £70 you buy a new HDD for that money

That's what I thought too, as I couldn't find any ANYWHERE... But the people above me claim that the classified gtx 780 is the best 780 out of the box...

I think MSI Lightning isn't released yet.

Oh, they are talking about this.

Solution

Since MSI has a bad(?) habit of creating the best cards with the Lightning series, my advise is to wait and see what MSI will offfer soon.

I'm thinking that if you are a "normal" gamer any above average GTX 780 is going to be great to have in your rig. You probably don't need a $700 EVGA Classified. So you should be looking more at the MSI Gaming edition, which is a great card for a little less.

Still though, that HOF shroud is actually made of aluminum and metal alloys. I bet it looks so cool up close.

I would go for the ultra quality components of the 2-Slot Asus GTX780. Long life and high long-term value; but the HoF is one incredible looking card BUT it uses 2.5 slots; even though the photos prevent you from spotting that. Thus it is harder to SLi and reduces its long-term value.

Unless the R9 290X.............. end of the month.
