Bad idea to get a lower generation card with almost the same benchmarks?

So I've decided to get the 7950 because I think it's the best card for price in my price range, but then I was looking at the higher end cards in the 6000 series and the 6970 seems to hold the same benchmarks while being significantly cheaper.

Would it be a really bad idea to get a 6000 series card even if it is a lot cheaper?

It is not really a bad idea, but I would suggest you get a newer generation card. That being said, it is dirt cheap and will do quite well. If you can afford the 7950, go for that.
