Is my son's motherboard (F2A55-M) dead?

Hi everyone,
My son's computer seems to have died. He put it together a few months ago and though he had issues switching it on the first couple of times, it has worked fine ever since.

Unfortunately since last week it's starting acting up again, and now he can't switch it on at all, though the (SB Power) LED on the motherboard lights up when the power is connected. Nothing else happens at all!

We've been through the standard checklist, and haven't had any success.

The build is:
RAM: Kingston Hyper -X Beast 8g RAM 1600 Mhz
CPU: AMD 5800K
Graphics card: NVIDIA MSI GTX660TI
Motherboard: ASUS F2A55-M
Case: Corsair Carbide 500R
PSU: Coolermaster GX Lite 700w
Net card: ASUS PCE -N53

Unfortunately I'm no computer whiz kid, so I thought perhaps someone here could help with some advice.

Any ideas?

I will give you my list of things to check.

1.First of all check that the 24 pin Atx block is correctly connected to the board from the psu leads.

2.Next make sure the extra 4 pin 12 power supply is also plugged into the board from the psu.
The extra twelve volt four pin socket is located next to the cpu socket and should be blue in color. This must be connected, even if the board has a green led to say it has power. It will cause the board not to boot if it has become loose, badly fitted or simply not connected. Have a double check it is sitting right.

Check all of that first. Post back see if it was any of the above in the post.

Check that the Pci-e 12v supply connectors are also connected to the top or side edge of the graphics card.

If one of them was the case it was why the board would not boot.

I had the same problem a few months ago, I also thought it was the motherboard because the light was on. But I got a replacement power supply first and it turned out it was the power supply! So my advice would be get a replacement power supply.

But before you send it back make sure it's plugged into the mains then unplug everything that it's plugged into. After that take a paperclip and plug it into the green cable and any black cable on the 24-pin motherboard connector, if the fan starts spinning then it's working.

If that works then it is your motherboard and send it back for a replacement. I'm confident it is the power supply though as that was the case with mine. Hope this helped.

We tried the paperclip trick, and the power suppy was working. Oddly enough, when he put everything back together everything started as normal. Job done you'd think it must have been a loose connection, but the next day it stopped working again.
