I have a Windows 8 machine with a GTX 660 video card. I recently purchased a 47" Vizio 3D television (model number M3d470KDE. It is a passive 3DTV hooked up through HDMI.

When I enable 3d in the NVidia control panel, my TV detects it, and goes into 3D mode. I can view the little test video as well as the 3D photos that come with Nvidia's 3D Play. They look great. As soon as I try a game, all i get is shitty resolution, 2D game. NVidia spent about 30 minutes with me on the phone, I tried everything they said and didn't get anywhere. I have tried Dark Souls, League of Legends, and Darksiders. All of which are listedas working in 3D according to Nvidia's control panel. I have tried 1080 24hz, 1080 23hz, 720 60hz.

I know the 3D works, I can view it with the pics and the NVidia tests... but why no games?

Seriously. Any help would be so much appreciated. so many hours of this and my brain feels fried. I can think of nothing else to try.

Unfortunately, you've chosen to not go with 3D Vision. HDTV's do not function at 1080p and 60hz in 3D. They at most can function at 720p@60hz or 1080p@24hz. This is not a good thing for gaming.

2ndly, 3D Vision does not directly support your TV. You have to use Nvidia 3DTV play, and hope it works, as it doesn't for many TV's.

Alternatively, you could try Tridef software instead, which may give better support for your TV. Tridef is an open standard 3D software. Since you are not using Nvidia's 3D system, because of the TV you bought, that is the best you can do, but you'll still be limited to 720p @ 60hz or 1080p @ 24hz.

It sounds as if despite the hype, it just doesnt have the muscle to render a 3d environment in, well, 3d. Is that 3d 3d? I would expect the workload to be huge and frankly need 2 graphics cards. But I am guessing. I havent heard of anybody else actually using that function.

What type of HDMI cable are you using? It may be the bandwidth on the HDMI cable restricting the output. You should also be using 1920X1080 at 120hz. If the tests are working it is because your desktop environment is using 1080 at 120hz, but your games aren't outputting this resolution. You may need to use nVidia control panel to force this resolution, so double check the settings in there.
