Wireless is Slow

Hi,

My wireless internet is causing issues for me as I get around 3mbps in my room connecting to my PC and PS3. Downstairs on the HomePC using wired connection I can get 18mbps fairly consistently.

I assume the problem is the range. I currently have BT internet using the BT HomeHub 3 and I have a lot of devices connecting to the network but they all seem to work fine downstairs.

I have tried using Powerline Adapters but they don't work upstairs.

I've heard the WiFi range extenders wouldn't help too much and I'm not sure about getting a second router although having a cable run from downstairs would not be a viable option.

Also I know this forum is specifically for wireless networking but if a wired option would be okay without running a cable all the way upstairs.

Solution
There's a campaign called "dd-wrt" and it pretty much discards your current software on the router and replaces with their own software that improve the router and enable many properties that benefits connectivity.

Also home phone, microwaves can interfere with the signal.
Some home phones work in 5GHz so even using 802.11n can be interfered with it.

And wireless extenders won't be good for gaming because it cuts the bandwidth by half.

Hmmm interesting about the home phones but would DD-WRT help much? Or would it be better to buy a new router?

It helps a lot.
But if you have the money for it, get a new router.
And you can use ddwrt on top of that too which will make your router super awesome!
it's important you find the right software though.
You have to do some research on that

Could you recommend any router? I'm not sure how much it would help though...
