Solid slate drive vs I7

I have a problem I have been customizing a pc through pcpartpicker.com but I can't decide I'm trying to keep with in my relative budget.I'm wondering what would be a bigger performance boost going with a solid slate drive or taking my I5 a step up to a I7.

I would use this for primaraly for gaming and some video editing.I'm just wondering what would have the biggest preformance boost adding a ssd or upgrading the cpu with the money saved without one.

Well...the SSD doesn't really help with game performance, outside of load times and between levels.
The i7 doesn't help for games either.

Still, me personally I'd go with the SSD. Makes the whole PC snappier, not just the games. But then I'm not a heavy gamer.

Depends on the game too though. I have a Intel 520 180GB and Diablo 3 doesn't load any faster than it did when on my RAID0 with 2 Seagate 2TB HDDs.

That said, the experience with an SSD is a game changer. My first was a X-25M G3 and I can't go back to just a HDD for the OS. I run Windows 8.1 and, not counting the POST time, from the time I see the Windows 8 logo to the time I can jump to my desktop is something like 7 seconds. Similar systems even with the fastest desktop HDDs still take over a minute from that point.

Add in that doing drivers and applications takes way less time. A good example is the installs for Java. On a fresh Windows install to a HDD its normally 30-50 seconds to install Java. A SSD is like 10 seconds.

Overall, while a i7 is nice for the SMT (the 4 virtual cores) and a bit higher clock speed, the SSD will be more of a performance boost since Intels current architecture is already insanely fast.
