Hi All,

Sorry I’m asking for help in my first post, but I’ve read lots of threads on here and I’m totally confused. I am looking to build my first PC, yes I could go buy one but want the challenge and will learn from the experience.

The rig will be used as a general purpose machine, normal office email web duties plus photo editing and HTPC.

I would appreciate it if you could recommend me a system build, as the more I read on here the more I get confused.

Approximate Purchase Date: Within the next month

Budget Range: ±USD1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: This will be a multi-use system, watching HD movies, photo editing,

Are you buying a monitor: No, it will be either hooked up to my 52” TV or using my existing 23” monitor

Parts to Upgrade: New build, all items required except monitor, keyboard and mouse

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, but not sure windows 7 or 8

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Location: City, State/Region, Country NM

Parts Preferences: None

Overclocking: Maybe at some point in the future

SLI or Crossfire: No

Thanks in advance, Chas

I'm going to approach this from a different perspective. Since you aren't gaming I would take the money out of the builds graphics card that g-unit has in place and place it into a i7. Since you are doing production environment work a i7 will be more heavily felt then a beefy graphics card. You could also look towards a blu ray player if you were looking to watch blu ray content on your HTPC however if you do that you will need blu ray software something like powerdvd.

Thanks for both your replies, I think I'll give this build below a go...

Right on yea I think that will fit the bill for you. However if you ever intend on doing something more heavy like graphic rendering or video rendering you may want to get a more beefy graphics card but for what you are doing a i7 will be more then enough for you given your budget.
