Hey TH, you have always been good to me, maybe you can provide yet another solution. :/

I recently (last night) built a new PC and installed Windows 7. It went smoothly. Then I installed all the drivers from the disc that came with my mobo (Gigabyte GA-Z77X UD3H) as well as Norton antivirus. Everything was fine (and curse me for not making a Restore point) and audio was working properly with my VIA VT2021 on-board audio. The only problem was that I had to disable front panel audio detection.

Once I got an internet connection, I performed a massive Windows Update (132 updates) and updated all my drivers from the Gigabyte Website. At this point, all my audio stopped working, except for the digital output thing. So I tried to install new drivers from their website. That didn't work. I honestly tried uninstalling, reinstalling, checking things through device manager manually, etc. I even tried generic Realtek audio drivers to no avail.

I need any advice I can get on how to fix this. At this point I think I am going to back up my system and reinstall windows 7 entirely and not update the driver.

Thanks for any help

Solution
what happens if you desactivate the via sound panel under peripheral and restart the system windows should detect as a new peripheral and install or at lest suggess driver for it .

Yep. Doesn't work either.

Edit: I get this if I try to point it at the driver through device manager:

i look back and seen that digital work then open the via audio panel and check if speaker is default and that the headphones are redirected then open the windows sound control on the tight toolbar at the bottom and check the speaker box and apply .

I found a system restore point, going to try that. In reference to what you said, it had the device as default, but nothing connected. I checked all the connections and they were fine.
