Hi all,

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS, I WILL BE FOREVER THANKFUL

Last night I downloaded a programme called 'Active Partition Recovery to try and recover some iles off of a corrupted External HDD. I began to scan the entire computer for 'partitions' , and stopped the scan after about 30 minutes as I did not have time to let the san complete its course.

Anyway, I ran an 'advanced scan' on a 'good partition' found (called Boot 16 or something), but again stopped it, as it occurred to me that I had no idea what I was doing. I clicked the 'recover' icon, and Kaspersky began to scan 10's of thousands of files all of a sudden, I closed the program, and realized there were no desktop icons, and 'start' bar wouldn't work. Shocked - I turned off the computer then rebooted it.

I was able to log in normally, but I came to a black screen with nothing but the whit cursor, and a message in the bottom right saying 'Windows , this build is not genuine' (it is genuine though, as I forked out my hard earned cash to buy it a yea or 2 back).

I was able to get into task manager, and from there, browse the computer. While all folders appear intact (and are the correct size) they have no files in them. Whenever I try to run an application I get the message 'cannot find the file path specified', or 'do not have permission'.

I fear that there is problem with the accounts/permssions, as there now appears to be 2 newly created accounts - called TEMP and AndrewTEMP my normal account, with the word TEMP added to it.

Ive tried scanning the hard drive, and restoring to a previous point but to no avail.Safe mode is no different either. The hard dive says its not 'shared' with any account at the moment.

IM VERY HESITANT TO TO A COMPLETE UTILLITY RESTORE,(F3) as I have many many photos, assignments, movies, and parents work documents stored on the hard drive.

I don't know what I was doing with the partitions last night but ive managed to leave the computer as an empty shell, whch isn't able to open any files or run any applicatons whatsoever,

System 32 also appars to have many strange subfolders, a few of which were created at the time of the incdent.

Short of completely wipping the hard drive and starting from scratch, is there any other action I can take to restore it to its previous state?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THROUGH ALL OF THIS, IM GETTING PRETTY DESPERATE NOW!

Boot of your windows 7 install disk, and select repair my computer when it shows up. Then just allow it to automatically fix any problems.
