someone told me to get a new VRM heatsink and or add a fan ? I have no experience modding motherboards but can anyone reccomend what I need to do to fix the throttling issues with this mobo and cpu?

Everyone is saying "turn off APM" but gigabyte bios don't have this option in bios

Basically, what steps do I need to take in order to make sure my FX-8350 can overclock on this board with no throttling issues

So far, its running my 965BE well at 1.392 Volts idles about 30 celcius, load doesnt even break 50 degrees which is great because temps aren't an issue currently with my Phenom.

Many thanks to anyone who can help, I just bought my 990fxa-ud3 because I heard great things about it, but apparently 2 weeks after I bought it when researching 8350 + this mobo , all I hear is the pitiful cries of overclockers around the world, frustrated and desperate for answers regarding throttling issues !

currently have:

-Phenom II x4 965 OC'd to 3.9Ghz w/ 2400MHz NB
-Gigabyte 760 GTX Windforce factory OC plus aftermarket OC = 1332MHz core and 7GB mem clock
-8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 1600MHz/ 9-9-9-24 / 1.5V
-Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
-Corsair H60 cooler
-650W Antec Earthwatts
-Antec 900 Case
-150GB HDD

Solution
Am I correct in thinking you have not got the 8350 yet and therefore not experienced this problem? If that is correct just get it and don't worry about throttling unless it happens.

Thanks, but judging from the 650 page thread complaining about the 990fxa-ud3 rev 3 owners club which I have just bought specifically for when I can afford the 8350 (few days from now) I want to be versed in the possible problems which can occur, even at modest overclocks there's apparently throttling caused by VRMs overheating, and actually warping the board !! It's scary

CPU-Z was showing throttling for me. No matter what my clock was, or what settings were enabled/disabled, it would reduce the clock down to 17x randomly. According to the tools Gigabyte provides (Easytune6), there wasnt any throttling at all! While gaming, I didn't notice any throttling. I even put the clock down to 17 just to see how much of a difference it would make, and my Skyrim fps plummeted. I definitely would have noticed if it was throttling. I think most of the problems experienced are with CPU Z reads and not the mobo/processor itsself.

Still, overclocking on that board is a bit more difficult than it needs to be. I hate how you have to cycle through all the voltage settings instead of just typing it in. I have had huge success just using the AMD catalyst control center, but it kind of takes the piss out of OC'ing using the BIOS.

Those people likely had not disabled all "C-States" in the BIOS. When you overclock, the C-States can really act wonky in some setups. I usually disable them from the get-go so that way it never becomes an issue at all.
