As the title says is the Intel Core i3 3217U 1,8 GHz any good?

I was looking around and found an ASUS with i3 3217U 1,8 GHz...
Before you say it sucks and its the worst piece of crap, at least give it a chance

I know its not for gaming but can it run games like team fortress 2, sniper ghost warrior 2 etc?

More about : intel core 3217u ghz good

The IGP with that CPU will not be up to the task for gaming. If you want to game on IGP, AMD APU's are the way to go.

IGP?? what do you mean by that?
Im not an hardcore gamer, i just want the laptop to handle simple games, not like crysis or anything like that

Here are the specs:

ASUS X550
- Intel Core i3 3217U 1,8 GHz
6GB DDR3 RAM
750GB HDD
NVIDIA Geforce GT 720M

IGP = Integrated Graphics. AMD's IGP is far superior to Intel's. If you want to game at all on a laptop with IGP, you want an A series AMD.

AMD APU will do all the office/internet type stuff just fine and the APU will make those games playable. I don't see them being playable on an intel IGP.

Performance wise, they are pretty much even for everyday things. The A8 is better at multitasking and the i3 is a bit better on single threaded apps. Since you want to do some gaming, the A8 is the better choice as the A8 has the better graphics capability.

The i3 3217u is slightly faster then the a8-4500m at multitasking and takes significantly less electricity compared to the a8-4500m.

Try and at least get an i5 3317u.

Look for a laptop that has a gt 640m or 740m or 8750m in it.

well i have bought an laptop which has an i5-3230M, its great but one problem is the wifi, its slow like hell and disconnects sometimes by itself...

I will tell you know I am upgrading from an i5 3317u acer m3 to a samsung np550p5c with an i5 3210m and gt 650m. Ulvs are not designed to play games perfectly as the base clock is low so you get fluctuations in performance if you get an i5 ulv. What laptop do you have. Run ccleaner and click on repair or troubleshoot network problem etc. See if you have a wifi on button somewhere to.

But if you see at my other thread you can read that the laptop i bought with the wifi problem is only 7 days old... i just bought it and after like 2 days i noticed that it had a very weak wifi connection.... sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes sloooooooow like hell, and even sometimes it dies completely (limited acces with the yellow thingy)... the laptop is an Lenovo. That is the reason im going to pick an ASUS because of their quality

led me to this link:

It could be something that has become loose like an antenna wire.

thank you for the links! :)
But how is that possible? Its completely new and if i open the back cover dont i lose the warranty?

How would they know unless there is a sticker that acts as a seal to prove it was open. I know my Asus never had such a thing. I am upgrading my wireless as soon as my new wireless card comes in. Replacing the Centrino 100 that is in it with one that is 300n with bluetooth. Crossing my fingers that it works since it is also a Centrino one and Asus is more flexible than the big OEM's.

Try this:
'Finally, I updated the driver, unselected allowing the computer to turn off the device and turned the power manger performance to max then restarted my computer. That seemd to have fixed it and now I don't have to return the computer because this is really the most annoying driver/software glitch ever!'

Another person said this:
'And there we have it. I made a LinuxLive USB with Kubuntu 12.10. Booted it and tried my homenetwork staight away. Connection fine, INTERNET WORKING! The hardware is fine. So, the conclusion is....Its a Windows/driver/application problem. Now I have to find this problem... Any ideas are appriciated. '

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G...

Try this third one and see if makes a difference:

'I finally got around to solving the problem on my G580

1. DEVICE MANAGER
2. Find the broadcom driver there
3. right click, "Update Driver Software"
4. Done!

PS: I had already installed the Wifi Driver (CyberTan, Liteon) for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), i don't really know if that is relevant to the problem being resolved or not. Give it a shot! '

i have tried that... the wifi signal is still weak

I have an Intel i3 processor and it runs any game I have played just fine, games like blacklight and planetside 2 I have no problems with just have to have the settings on medium and it runs smooth.
