I have a Gigabyte 7970 3gb as my primary card and a msi twin frozr 7950 crossfired to it. The primary card is powered off my 800 watt power supply where as the secondary card is powered from a supplementary 450 watt visiontek supply. The 7970 works fine individually as the 7950 does. Whenever I try to connect to arma 2 it just completely locks my machine and I cannot do anything but restart. I have tried drivers 12.6 12.12 13.2 13.4 and the beta 13.5 drivers. Changing the clocks has no effect. Any ideas?

Your underpowered secondary power supply is a prime suspect. Can't you plug both cards into the 800 watt PSU?

I think if I plug both cards into my primary psu my cpu wont have enough power as it is the 8 core vishera. I might give that a try anyway.

800 watts is plenty if its a quality PSU.

I just checked, its actually a raidmax 850-AE and its 80plus gold, do you think that will do the trick?

Yeah, go for it and see what happens. It can't be any worse than it already is.

I wouldn't waste my time with crossfire ever again, but 17seconds is right, ditch the 450w psu. But running 2 cards, especially ones of different performance, although it can be done, will result in more micro-stutter than you can imagine due to uneven frame rendering times. plus arma2 is more cpu bound than anything, a single 7970 can max that game out.

After a quick test it does look like it was the supplementary power supply causing the issues. Everything was able to run fine so far, I will mark this as solved after a few more tests.

It is only happening in arma 2 when crossfire is enabled, I have been able to play 3 hours with it disabled.
