I was thinking of a way to make my listening experience better, in some little ways. I do not know too much about headphone hardware (how it works, exactly). I am currently using a Turtle Beach x12 headset. Now, from what little I have read, this headset has a built in "sound card" into the wiring. It is that little box on the cord, yes?

Assuming I am correct up to this point, would it be possible for me to bypass this, by removing it? Could I cut the wiring on either side, then join the two wires, leaving the box out? And, if so, would there be any reasonable benefit (by not having the audio sent through an extra, probably poor quality, sound filter)?
Sorry if this a completely ridiculous idea, I do not have much experience in this field.
Thanks in advance!
