First off, I'm a complete idiot but I do know how to do basic installation/upgrade. My question is, are these two components (in the title) compatible? I'm going to do a little upgrade and just wanted to make sure first and I trust this community. Thanks guys!

No, they are not. The CPU support list only specifies the FX-8100 series of CPU as the latest available CPUs for use, FX-8300 series is not included.
