Just like the title says, looking for the best cpu for a build that will be 60-70% used for photo/video editing and rendering, most of the rest just day-to-day use, possibly the occasional game, but it would be very rare.

I'm leaning towards the xeon, since it's basically an i7 for an i5 price, and seems to benchmark better for my purposes. Any advice or experience to backup or dispute my thinking here?

Thanks in advance.

If you can get the Xeon E3-1230v3 for the same price as an i5 then yes, you should get the Xeon.

The i5 is not necessarily enough for serious rendering and the i7 costs so much more for features that you wouldn't need. Unless you're considering programming.
