Hi,

I've been having problems with my Windows 7 Home Edition Acer Aspire S3 ultrabook running Startup Repair loops. It takes hours of either running through the startup repair (which finds no problems) multiple times, or looping through the 'start windows normally' process numerous times before I can actually log in.

The issue seems to occur whenever Windows Updates are installed. I once tried disabling Windows Updates, but it then occurred with Microsoft Security Essentials updates, which I could not seem to uninstall. Uninstalling the updates will usually rectify the problem, but if not I will need to do a complete factory restore of my computer. It seems to need this to be done every two to three weeks, which is extremely frustrating and time consuming as I rely on my computer for my work and studies.

Does anyone have any ideas of why this is happening and what I can do to stop it from happening again? The laptop itself is only seven months old, so I am very disappointed to be having major problems with such a new machine.

Thanks!

Not really sure what exactly is happening, but there could be some corruption in the Operating System which is causing this. I'm sure it could be a number of other things.

If you have a backup disc or an install disc for Windows 7 (hopefully you do!), you should use that and do a complete re-install. Be sure to backup all of your data before you do the re-install, because once it's gone, it's gone.

I have tried doing a complete factory restore, if that's what you mean by a complete re-install? It's fine for a little while after that, but then once a new update installs it will begin going through the startup repair loop again.
