I am planning on buying a Asus 24 inch 144hz monitor : (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-LCD+Monitors-_-N82E16824236313&gclid=CNOW-Zad_rgCFUOd4AodPVYAXA) and I have a Acer G245HQ 24in monitor. My question is, if I bought another 24in 60hz monitor, would I be able to run all three monitors in surround , with the 144hz monitor set at 60hz? I want to be able to switch between surround and using just the Asus monitor, and I wasn't sure if it was possible to use the 144hz monitor in 60hz mode to achieve this.

Solution
As for the other monitor, I personally would try to foist that off for a small price to a family member if you can, and buy two new 60Hz monitors - it would bother me incredibly to be playing on an asymmetrical screen setup. (Though I'm more than a tad OCD.)
Yes, you would be able to do that. Surround, as long as it's not 3d surround, only requires three monitors with the same resolution and refresh rate. (though it looks better if they're the same model and all have small bezels.)

That being said, I've tried Asus's 144 Hz monitors and can't stand them - it's a gimmick that hides the fact that the panel itself is cheaply made and has bad color. I would highly recommend BenQ's 120Hz monitors. It's got color and pop that rivals lower end IPS panels, and you can't tell the difference between 120 and 144 fps at all.

Thanks for the imput, I really am not interested in 3D surround and I'm glad this will work. I have seen BenQ's 120hz monitor and may buy one instead if you think it will look a lot better than the Asus monitor. Thanks so much! As far as it looking better if they are all the same do you just mean aesthethically, because they all line up, or does it actualy change the picture quality somehow? Also, since the acer monitor I have is discontinued, what would you recommend for the other 60hz monitor. (I really like the one I have because I can overclock it to 66hz and it actually can make a small difference)

I don't mean aesthetically - the panels themselves aren't the same. There can be a HUGE difference between how one panel looks and how another one does; that includes brightness, color accuracy, color vividness... that's why IPS panels are so popular; they look far more like real life than a normal computer monitor does, because they're far more accurate and vivid.

Yea this really helps. I'm not going to get anything right away because I need to save my money, but I will probably try to get rid of the one I have now. Unless of course it is an ips panel, which I'm not even completely sure of. Maybe you can check out my other thread, and thanks you've been a big help!
