When I plug the HDMI into the AMD Radeon HD 6570, the icons disappear on the monitor & appear on the TV, moved. The wallpaper is still visible on the monitor, but the icons are gone.

I just want to send my display to my TV, so I went HDMI to HDMI.

With the cable in, I have no display on the monitor and there is no setting in Device Manager for multiple displays. To use the AMD monitor "detect" I have to plug in the HDMI at which point I can no longer hit the "detect" button because the desktop disappears - and AMD's setup offers no option for manual second display set up.

Max res on what I know is not a gamer card is 1080 x 1650. 1650? That's what the monitor is set to, and the TV accepted it well enough - if it only allowed me to see my monitor so that I could use it.....

I keep falling down and my wife is pointing and laughing while I cry.

Solution
1. You have it set to "Extend these displays"
2. The TV (or the port the TV is plugged into) is set to be the primary
3. You have auto-arrange icons turned on

plug everything in so you can see stuff on both screens
Open the Personalization dialog box (right click on the windows desktop)
arrange the displays as needed
Set your monitor to be the Primary
If desired, set 'Multiple Displays' to "Duplicate these displays". That will show exactly the same on both.
Turn auto-arrange icons OFF

The wife will hopefully stop laughing.
