Hi I have a problem that I can find forums for on the web but can not find any results. Either missing links or links to expired webpages.

My issue is that I have an old SONY VAIO notebook Windows xp sp3 installed on it but the monitor (NOT the display) settings are messed up.

I'm a computer IT guy and even do computer support for a living so hear me out it's not a simple fix issue. I know how to setup display settings in my sleep that's is not the issue. It would be an easy issue if it were like a desktop monitor but it's not, it's a laptop and there are no controls to manually adjust the monitors settings.

The computer OS and or graphics card drivers need to adjust the monitors settings to fix the issue but there seems to be no live links left on the entire internet for the drivers and the OS software failed to set the monitor to the correct specifications. So I am left with 1 1/2 inches of black on both the right and left sides of the screen and about 1/2 inches on the top and bottom.

Again it's a SONY VAIO notebook/laptop Model PCG-9U1L has Windows XP sp3 installed on it, needs updated video driver(s).

Unfortunately, I would still have the software if it were mine from the get go but I just inherited it and the previous owner no longer has the hardcopy of software that came with it.

Here's what I've already done so far:

- Everything I could think of, shy of calling SONY and asking why they don't have links for older drivers.
- I re-installed fresh Windows XP OS. It tried to establish correct monitor parameters but failed same problem after fresh install.
- Tried to get software drivers from previous owners, was not an option.
- Looked an almost every driver download page for drivers for this specific sony vaio model PCG-9U1L and no luck.
- Already looked on Sony's own driver update page and they keep trying to offer some paid program to get drivers, it's a tiny driver file and people shouldn't have to pay to use the computer they bought, especially when they already no how to fix it but the stupid maker of the product doesn't provide the files to do so on their product page!!!

Solution
Pcg-9u1l doesn't appear to be the correct model number and refers to the pcg-k43q, k45, or k47. They all have the same radeon igp 345m and the download links work. There were multiple google links that worked as well when searching for that gpu.

Yeah, I found those drivers too and the following error shows up when you attempt to install them:
"This update is not intended for your computer model"

Just a side note, I'm very new to this forum I was wondering if there was a way to add photos. Not super important but seeing what other people are saying helps a lot, just curious.

I'm not suggesting you aren't getting it, you are on the right track.

Hey thanks for the help k1114. I had all three of the drivers you mentioned downloaded on my USB flash driver but I guess after trying the first two I got frustrated and went to the forums. I tried the last one and it worked (PCG-K45).

Strangely enough I found two model numbers on the laptop. I searched closer after it accepted the final driver and installed, I found a second model number but it was very obscure and in very small print. The very large print and obvious model number is located on the back PCG-9U1L but in very small print at the very bottom on the right side-edge of the monitor in size 6 font is the PCG-K45 model number.

Thanks for your help, this ones going to my niece to help her in school. :~)
