Can anybody tell me why a wireless N repeater is droping down the network speed?

I observed the N repeater slows down my connection from15 Mbps to 8 Mbps, measured on the same computer, same location, just switching from connecting directly to my router to the repeater.

Can anybody explain to me why would this happen? is it a normal case?

Thats normal, you have to remember that the repeater is having to use the same antenna to receive and then resend, so speeds drop, ping and latency go up.

Nope, any form of wireless extender will drop speed, best you can do is either get a good spec AC router and AC wireless dongle or use powerline tech to extend the range.

Will a dual band repeater be a solution to the speed issue? From what I know, it's likely to receive data in one frequency and send out in the other, hence speed will not be cut in half.

It can, I have a dual band for the living room, with the 5ghz being using to talk to the router, works well, but you can get a nice Netgear Powerline AP kit that will do the job better.
