I have been gaming on a HDTV now for around 8 years my input lag is around 80ms and when i do an online twitch test its about 320ms i do have a monitor and my score is around 240ms so if my monitor is 0ms (which i doubt) tv is 80 now it seems my score is low and with online fps shooters i am on the back foot or can skill out perform i have a good keyboard and mouse and i find gaming on the big screen much better i am only suffering on fps really and maybe fighting games but diablo 3 it dont matter was just wondering other what the commuity thinks my grammer and english is pants i know my kill/death on counter strike is normally 50/50 but i am getting smashed really i have been gaming for over 20 years should i pack up and go in the spare room with a headset and get serious

How big is your HDTV?

To be honest a monitor is always my choice for more reasons than just preference. You can buy a monitor with the same, if not better quality than your HDTV. The biggest difference would be the response times which would obviously help you in shooters like Counter Strike.

Having the flexibility with DVI and VGA connections with a monitor also gives you debatebly better response time.
If size is your issue, then I would just recommend upgrading to a monitor that suits your needs. Do some web surfing and look at reviews of some monitors out there and see what other people are saying.

Personally I think gaming on HDTV's is crap. I can't stand it ha.

a comparable sized monitor will be superior with better pixel response times and less input latency as long as its a TN panel and not IPS

if you have a gaming or pc input mode as a preset for the hdmi input, set it to the it should turn off most of the processing features and reduce the input latency a reasonable amount.

yeah i tried it seems a bit better but the picture is bad adds a ghosting effect and turns alot of settings of. I have been testing for about a week now it is fine when gaming nothing noticeable but i know that guys on monitors have the edge on the quick draw and i have been aware of it for a while so i have kind of changed my play style to ninja rather than unreal jumping blast a thon its just i have some cash and its either upgrade my 6970 to gtx 770 or a flash monitor but never liked the desk style gaming and tinny sound i had some creative 7.1 speakers a few years ago but my floor standing missions blow them clean and sound is a big part of the experience i challenge most to beat me on that front but back on toppick how much of a dissadvantage am i on a hdtv seeing as im happy with every thing else is 80ms enough to get a monitor i dont join games with over 20ms unless its dayz but that game feels like you 2 mins behind anyway is 80ms alot ?
