I just put together my first build and I need to reinstall windows 8 pro, I just got the disk as win 8 pro was already on the HDD that I got from a friend so there is complications now. Anyway I will be installing my OS on an SSD (Samsung 840 120gb, good price) and I have my OS on a WD 1.5TB performance drive and I have a crappy WD 1TB blue HDD for storage now but I want it(WD blue) to be my back up drive. I have been looking on google for the best ways to do this but have found so many different answers that don't really help so I was hoping someone can give me some info or refer me to a site that can help me with these issues. I hope that made sense.

Just install Win 8 to your SSD and you're golden. There's a very low chance...

Just install Win 8 to your SSD and you're golden. There's a very low chance of the drive failing. If you want to back up data, look into autoback up program or a raid config.

Moving your OS without formatting and reinstalling everything is not recommended
Simple solution would be:
1)Format your WD 1.5 TB after taking the backup and Unplug it for a while.

2)put the ssd in and re-install winodws 8 from disk(cd-dvd) to the ssd.

3)then plug back the wd 1.5 tb boot using the ssd and set up he wd 1.5 and make appropriate drives and use it.
(if the drive does not show go to My Computer > Manage > Disk Management and Initialize or partition drive )
