SSD + Windows 8 + Norton Internet Security or Norton 360.

Good Morning/Evening!

I'll soon be using a Samsung 840 Pro 120GB SSD and was wondering what the best advice would be for disabling features in Windows 8 and either Norton 360 or Norton Internet Security that may harm the performance of the SSD?

I'm aware that some features used for HDDs are not suitable for SSDs and should be avoided. Not defragging the SSD is something I'm clear on, however I'd appreciate any advice on this and any other features.

In addition to things to avoid, I'm curious on what would be best at maintaining optimal performance over time via application/software etc. I understand that Samsung has SSD software that might cover this.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Just install the SSD and disconnect any other drive. Enter your BIOS and set the drive to AHCI mode. Install 8.

Yes, really. I have the option to use either of those products free of charge for the time being as they are linked to my dads Norton account and he has spare license keys that he's not using.
