I have a 2007 macbook pro with I believe Leopard installed on it. It apears to have been dropped but the only notable damage is the case is popped up on the bottom left part of the keyboad, but really not that much. However, when it turns on you just get the macintosh apple logo and then it freezes up. any help?

You probably destroyed the hdd when you dropped it. I don't know anything about macs so you could take it out and see if the hdd works in another computer.

most likely dislodged the HDD from its connector or destroyed the platter of the HDD if it was a glass platter HDD.

open it up and see if the hdd is loose from its connector.

And if one of those two things are the issue, can they be replaced? Also if I do this would I need to reinstal my OSX? because currently I have no back up disks or anything

if the HDD is broken then yes you will need to replace it and reinstall OSX

will there be an obvious way to tell if it is broken?

Obvious? Not exactly. Try to reseat it first like mentioned above. If that doesn't work you can take it out and plug it into another computer to see if it is recognized. If neither of those things works then yeah it's broken.

Open it up and see if the HDD is ok. If you don't want to do that, you'll have to send it in for repair :(
