Error code 0xc0000005 - Can't open .exe files

Hello everyone! I need help some help, as I can't open any .exe file, as I get the error 0xc0000005. I think I know the source of the problem. I turned off my computer last night, and updates installed. Turned it on today, couldn't configure the updates, reverted changes. I don't think it reverted fully though, as I get these error codes. I've tried system restore once, and that failed. It's prompted me to try and install one update on turning off the computer again, but that one fails at startup next time too. I can't open Chrome, as that's a .exe file, so I'm typing from the laptop atm. Any help would be much appreciated.

This didn't really explain it very well for me. It shows what I am experiencing at the start, but doesnt really give a solution.

You have 4 different solutions on that link...

My RAM is two years old, so not recently installed.
The DEP thing only works if you're getting access code violations. My one says the application was unable to start correctly.
No graphics card drivers were recently installed.
I don't use IE6, and it affects all applications.

Try different RAM, or take one RAM stick and try, than other...

    Test the RAM: http://www.memtest.org/

I'll try that after, but it seems I may have found some solutions here.

I'll report back to see if they work, then try your solution!

Okay, I've fixed it with SteveO1964's answer. I'll leave it here, but it is in the thread mentioned above if people looking at this thread with the same problem need other answers.

OK, I think this will fix it.
First of all, if your System Restore is working then just use that to go back to before the recent updates, if it's not working then try this.

    1. Disconnect from the internet
    2. Open Control Panel
    3. Open Program & Features
    4. Click "View installed updates" on the left-hand side
    5. Find "Security update for Microsoft Windows (KB2859537)" under the Microsoft Windows section
    6. Uninstall that update and restart you PC (may take a very-VERY long time to configure)
    7. Go to Windows Updates and hide (KB2859537)
    8. Reconnect to the internet
    9. Fix your System Restore feature; You might have to remove a fake C: drive and enable System Restore on the correct Windows drive.

    Worked for me!
  5. Microsoft made a guide for this:

    good luck :)
