Installed DirectX - now system freezes/crashes

Hi,

I got myself a new Lenovo H520 and added an Nvidia GT610 to it; installed the Nvidia drivers and later since I wanted to play games with Dolphin (Nintendo Wii emulator), needed the Xinput1_3.dll file and thus had to install DirectX.

Since installing DirectX, I notice this PC has developed a freezing problem - especially when it comes to anything that deals with graphics (but at times even with simple apps like switching between apps).

Any help on this would be highly appreciated.

You can't uninstall DirectX as it is a Windows component. You can re-install it and fix some issues. For conformation, here is a link:

Simple browsing and basic PC usage may not require 300w, but the PSU must be able to provide the minimal power required for all devices installed in a system for the overall system to operate properly.

Try re-installing DirectX. Get the latest directly from Microsoft:

This sounds like a possible heat and/or power issue. Some H520s models ship with a GT630, so powering the GT610 should not be an issue. If you are monitoring your system temperatures, how hot is the GT610 getting at idle and under load (like when gaming)?

Thanks COLGeek,

I just monitored with Nvidia's Xtreme Tuner Plus and see that in idle mode, temp comes down to 37°C and when I started the game, it was at 48°C

When it crashes, it's like the screen goes into sleep mode and the system freezes.

Incase it may help, here's logs for DirectX:
DXError.log
DirectX.log

Thanks, COLGeek.

I am a bit confused now.

Does simple browsing and basic PC usage require 300W for the graphics card?

Also. besides this new Lenovo PC, I also have a Compaq NC6400 Laptop which is a Centrino DUO and has the on-board Intel graphics adaptor. On the laptop I can do gaming like using Nintendo Wii emulator (Dolphin which is power intensive) and it doesn't cause the laptop to crash (agreed, some games do freeze, but that just brings the game to stop and not the entire machine).

How comes on a much more powerful machine (the Lenovo) even basic browsing at times is causing the whole machine to crash.

One more thing - This crashing issue I face only when using Win7 (my new Lenovo is a dual-boot (Linux & Win7) Linux works fine).

Is there a way I can uninstall DirectX and re-install? The problem started after I installed DirectX and at times I get the message that DirectX was not installed correctly, so I try to reinsall and am told that a newer driver is already installed.

Alternatively, is there a way I can tweak the settings so the Nvidia doesn't need so much power?

Here's some logs (incase they may help):
DXError.log
DirectX.log
