Hey so as the title suggests my computer keeps crashing to the desktop whilst i play games about 5 minutes into the game:

Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Overclock: 25%
Radeon HD 7970 Gigabyte
8 GB DDR3 1600MHz
1TB HDD
Win 7 64
DX11
PSU Corsair TX 650w
Arctic cooling freezer

Here is what i have tried so far to fix this problem:
- Virus scan
- Malware scan
- Registry clean
- validating game cache on steam
- reset computer to factory settings
- Defragmented the HDD
- Cleaned out the PC
- Removed overclock
- GPU stress test
- CPU stress test
- Purchased new graphics card (under warranty)
- Memtest86

i get temperatures of around 40 degrees and was wondering if there was any other way to check hardware thoroughly?

Is it all games or just one? Did this start happening before or after you got the new gpu?

If you have Virtu, then disable it and retest.

What motherboard do you have?

BTW - It's Lucid Virtu MVP. Open start and type Virtu... to see if it's installed or not.

I have the Gigabyte Z77-D3H and when i type virtu in the start menu this is what come up:
- How to change the size of virtual memory
- set up a virtual private network connection. (im guessing this one has nothing to do with it)

Check your tray (bottom right on desktop) for the lucid virtu mvp control panel. It may not be the problem, but could be especially if it's outdated.

Method I used for uninstalling and reinstalling drivers.

Method:

1) Download Driver Fusion HERE.
2) Download Catalyst 13.8 Beta drivers HERE. but don't install.
3) Custom uninstall all AMD software through Control Panel, select everything and reboot.
4) Run Driver Fusion and clean AMD display drivers - reboot.
5) Re-install CCC and reboot.
