I have 2 laptops in my house.

Netbook - Acer with windows XP
Laptop - Acer with Windows 7

Now problem I have is the netbook can pick up my router on wireless search, When i click to connect to network it asks for a password which I enter and it attempts to aquire an IP address which it seems to fail to do.

My laptop connects without any problems.

Router is a Asus N66 combined with virginmedia superhub acting as a modem

Sounds like your router is working in 5ghz mode only and your netbook, being older with XP, I would bet only supports 2.4ghz speeds. My phone is the same way. It's a wireless "N" device but only 2.4ghz N, not 5ghz N and thus I have to make sure my router is either 2.4ghz or 2.4/5ghz switchable or else I get the same thing. I can see it, put a password, but it can't connect in the end.
