Recently I was having trouble with my computer shutting down for seemingly no reason. I eventually narrowed it down to a overheating graphics card i think the system was getting up 100 degrees and then would shut down. SO i got a GTX 660 TI and installed that and the temperatures all stayed normal and everything seemed great. Then i tried playing Tomb Raider (which came with the new card) and it just restarted the computer. Now it will restart at seemingly random times while I doing seemingly graphically intense operations (Multiple tabs open in firefox, working in maya, zbrush or photoshop.)
I'm fairly novice at all this computer stuff, so I was wondering if you guys could please help me. Should I just try and get a new card. (i don't do anything fancy with it like overclocking or any of that. I don't even play games really, but I do a lot of intense graphic arts stuff). I read it could be a PSU problem but 800w seems like it should be enough. but i'm not sure. And I'm weary of updating the BIOS. Or is there something I can do or look into to fix the problem. Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated. thank you very much!

Computer Specs-

asus P6T X58 SLI
12gb of RAM
Apevia 800watt PSU
Intel i7-920 2.66ghz 8m
Windows 7

Thanks a lot for your help man. That was fast! I will definitely look into these. Though I was wondering before I have to spend more money. Is there a way to be sure that's the problem? I mean the PSU i have now is in the worst tier it looks like, so I should definitely replace it eventually but it technically has been working pretty well for almost 4 years. I'm not saying your wrong or anything, I'm genuinely interested to know if there's a way to tell if it's a PSU problem that's causing this? , I would really like to learn more about computers and how to diagnose problems and hopefully fix them.
Thanks again man. I really appreciate it.

Agreed. Sometimes an unbuffered voltage from a flaky power supply causes ALL kinds of errata . Plus, do check your cpu cooler fan for dirt and such. Anything you can do (power cable management, cleaning the fans, even running open case) is bound to help.
800w is a lot, but it can go out You could just sub one for awhile & see if it stabilizes everything. I was about to chuck this rig once because I was getting correct voltages at reading, but under load it started failing, causing all kinds of different problems. Sudden power loss reboot tear on your hard drive, so that in itself might cause even more problems. Do the new PS....and then check your hard drive for errors.

Ok so i got a new PSU and after two days of using the computer pretty heavily i haven't had any problems. So it looks like the new power supply worked which is awesome. I even got tomb raider to work, much to my kids excitement. Thanks again so much you guys. You guys are awesome!
