I have an older HP computer with windows vista that had a blown PSU. We ended up upgrading to a newer HP with Win 7 professional.

My question is whether or not i can take the old boot drive from the dead computer and temporally install it into new computer as a secondary drive along side the current boot drive in order to copy some data (documents, pics, music, etc) over without causing any boot problems or reformatting either drive?

If so, do i just need to select the boot order in the bios or is there any additional steps i need to take?

I would prefer to do this without purchasing a USB to SATA adapter kit if possible

Thanks,

PS
The Old HDD is a Hitachi Deskstar and the new one is a Seagate drive.

Solution
It really should be as simple as connect the old drive and boot up, find it in My Computer, and copy stuff.

MAYBE you can check in BIOS Setup to be sure the system did not mysteriously decide to set the OLD drive as a boot device. Generally this does not happen, but a few mobos make assumptions about things depending on which mobo port is connected to what.
